About
Paula Parole is a German multidisciplinary artist based in London.
Her work draws from self-fiction and autotheory, using art to process personal experiences and explore relationships and internal patterns. She dissects and reinterprets her own stories, questioning ideas around womanhood, destiny, and fairy-tale romance. This reflective process leads to artworks that often evoke a sense of closure, symbolised through simple elements like the smell of incense or the sound of rippling oysters.
Paula’s nostalgic and realistic works often draw from family albums and documenting awkwardly intimate moments, while her "moody girls" act as alter egos humorously reflecting her inner world. A key feature in her practice is the use of custom frames, often made from fluorescent plexiglass, which add an extra layer to the narrative. These frames act as windows, either enhancing or contrasting the mood of each piece.
